Technogym Is Designing Gym Equipment to Disappear Into the Home

The Sand Stone collection applies one warm material language across cardio, strength, assessment, and Pilates equipment.

A training space in the Sand Stone finish

At Salone del Mobile in April, Technogym introduced Sand Stone — not a product, but a design identity applied across its major equipment families. The finish runs through the Artis cardio and strength lines, Biostrength machines, the Checkup assessment station, Personal Tools, the Reform Pilates machine, and the Antonio Citterio-designed Personal line.

The material palette is the story. Product casings use a speckled stone-effect material made from natural mica and recycled plastic; frames are metalised titanium; every surface the user touches — handles, seats — is a warm, matte clay-like material; and beech and ash wood details finish the set. The point of applying it across entire product families is coherence: a full room of equipment that reads as one considered interior rather than a collection of machines.

Why we care

The home gym has historically been designed around machines first and architecture second, with equipment that looks imported from a commercial facility. Sand Stone reverses that relationship. A single visual system across cardio, strength, assessment, and Pilates equipment means a training space can be specified the way the rest of the house is — by material and tone, not just by spec sheet. Technogym is explicitly aiming it at residences, hotels, and high-design wellness spaces.

Performance spaces are becoming part of the architecture rather than equipment rooms hidden from it. The home gym matures when its equipment no longer needs to be hidden at all.
