Mineral Wool Insulation

Insulation spun from molten basalt and slag into fiber batts and boards. Non-combustible to around 1,000°C, unusually dense, and indifferent to water — it sheds bulk moisture rather than absorbing it.
Why it matters
Mineral wool is the workhorse of high-performance assemblies for three unglamorous reasons: it does not burn, it kills sound between rooms better than fiberglass, and it keeps insulating when wet. It is also the practical acoustic fill for home gym walls and media rooms. The material questions are the binder (older formaldehyde chemistry vs newer formaldehyde-free lines) and respirable fiber handling during install.
