Why it matters

Cork solves a specific set of rooms extremely well: bedrooms, offices, yoga and mobility spaces — anywhere you want floors that are quiet, warm, and kind to joints. Suberin, the waxy compound making up roughly half its structure, resists mold, mites, and bacteria without treatment. The material itself is clean; the binder and finish it ships with are what need checking. And it is not a deadlift surface — right material, right room.

  • Dents permanently under racks, heavy furniture, and point loads
  • Cheap products can use urea-formaldehyde binders — this is where certification matters
  • "Cork-look" vinyl planks are PVC with a photo of cork on them
  • UV fades it; use rugs and window strategy in sun-heavy rooms
