WaterRower
The wooden rower that earned its furniture status.
What they're known for
Handcrafted hardwood rowers with real water resistance — the machine that lives in the living room on purpose.
The WaterRower is the rare cardio machine that improves a room. Handcrafted in Rhode Island since 1988 from solid hardwoods — cherry, walnut, oak — around a water flywheel that sounds like actual rowing, it stores upright against the wall and reads as furniture, which is precisely why it became the design world's default rower (and a television star in its Beltway years).
Water resistance behaves like water: the harder you pull, the harder it pulls back, with a rhythm and sound no fan or magnet replicates. It gives up the erg's competition-standard metrics and gains a machine you're glad to look at daily — which, for a machine you should use daily, is not a shallow trade.
